MVA dovetails are machined to +.001" / .003" over standard
size for most rifles. Usually some fitting is required. If
you are not experienced at fitting dovetails, we would
recommend that you have our sights installed by a qualified
professional gunsmith.
1. If your dovetail will not start in the barrel,
check the corner relief first. It may be necessary to remove
the sharp edge of the dovetail. DO NOT alter the 60 degree
geometry!
2. If your dovetail is still too tight, you may
remove material from the bottom of the mail dovetail. Work
carefully, .001" may make your sight too loose.
3. Use only a wooden dowel, nylon or other non-marring
material for drifting dovetails in place.
4. Sight models #111, #112, and #113 have set screws
to lock in place, wrench included. Use of set screw
typically is sufficient to tighten a loose dovetail.
Retaining compounds such as Loctite may be used. Loose
fitting dovetails may be tightened by use of shims. Use
thickness gauge for determining size required. Place shim
under dovetail. Retaining compounds such as Loctite may be
used.
5. Model #112 windage sight should be installed with
dovetail base removed from sight. Remove dovetail base by
traversing windage until base slides off globe body. Install
dovetail bas same as any dovetail. Be careful not to damage
tracking surfaces of windage dovetail. Slide globe body into
dovetail base until windage screw engages drive nut. Use
windage screw to center globe body.
